The Marine & Aquatic Science classes visited
Ship Island on October 2 to experience first-hand several scientific concepts
learned in the classroom. Students measured wave height, period, and speed;
performed water quality tests on ocean vs. sound-side samples; collected sand
and shell samples, and viewed wildlife and barrier island ecology. Data will be
further analyzed in the classroom and shared with the National Park Service.
Students toured Fort Massachusetts and learned about the history of the fort
and the island.
