Students of the Month for the month of August

 West Jones Middle School is pleased to announce the Students of the Month for the month of August.  These students were nominated by their teachers for this honor.  7th-grade recipients are Reese Gray and Connor Holifield.  Eighth-grade recipients are Cadie Lowe and Braxton White.  Student of the Month is sponsored by the Junior High Student Council with help from Mrs. Cockrell and the middle school art department.

We have our first home football game here Friday night against Raleigh. Tickets are on sale in the high school office for $7.00 each.

Parking stickers are on sale starting today through Friday in the high school office to Seniors only. To purchase stickers students will need $10, driver’s license, proof of insurance, and tag #.

This Friday’s theme is Out of this World Day!

Baseball tryouts have been rescheduled for Tue 9/1 and Wed 9/2.  7th-9th grade will try out Tuesday and 10-12 will try out Wednesday.  A tryout form and COVID Waiver must be filled out and turned in or brought to tryouts.

Teachers, please remind High School Band, Cheer, and Football players to purchase their tickets to the football game Friday night by the end of the day Wednesday. Tickets are $7.00 and you can purchase them in the High
School office.

Congratulations to our football team on their win Friday night!  The Mustangs will take on Wingfield here at home this Friday night. The theme for this week is Green and Gold Day.

8th Grade Boys and Girls Basketball Teams will be playing their first home game tonight vs Wayne Academy, Girls at 4pm/Boys at 5pm!  Please come out and support the Jr High Basketball Teams!

Senior Beta Club will meet after school in the media center on Thursday, November 7th.

Junior High Student Council will meet Tuesday, November 5th after school in Mrs. Matthews' room.   All members should make plans to attend.

It's Cane's Night this Tuesday night from 4:00 - 9:00. Go by and mention the West Jones Senior Class with your order.

Retakes for School day Pictures will be Tuesday, November 12.  The prices are the same as the original ones.  If you need a price sheet, go to the Middle School or High School office.

The Salvation Army Canned Food Drive is going on now through November 22nd.  Barrels are located in front of the High School and Middle School Offices.  Help a family in need by donating today.

Announcements 5/10/19


We will take up a love offering for Ayterria Wright on May 15th.
There will be a faculty meeting on May 15th right after school.
There will be a mandatory meeting Tuesday, May 14th at 6:00 in the PAC for all 2019-2020 high school Imagination members.  Please make sure you attend.
Class of 2020 T-shirt order forms are in the high school office.  All order forms and payments must be received no later than May 22, 2019.
"The Quiz Bowl Team invites all students from 7th through 12th grades to grab a partner and head to Science Lab 1 at the beginning of 7th period to play trivia.  It'll only cost you $2.00 per person, and the winning team will receive a cash prize.  After the preliminary round, the top 4 teams will stay and play 2 buzzer-style rounds of real Quiz Bowl to determine the winners."
Students, make sure you get all your library books turned in before summer break!  Since testing is going on in the library, you can turn your library books into the high school or middle school office.

The Biology I test will be Monday.  Biology I testers will report to first period and be called out.
Key club members who missed yesterday’s meeting, please see Mrs. Grafton or Mrs. Bryant after testing today to vote for officers. 
Jr. Beta members are reminded that their raffle ticket stubs and money are due Tuesday, May 14th in the middle school office.
Student's in grades 7-8 please check the trophy case and grades 9-11 check the bulletin board in building one for an announcement and list of names concerning the Award ceremonies for May 14.
There will be a nurse in the back band room this Monday, May 13th from 3-6 to give physicals to all upcoming 2019-2020 marching band members. Be sure to bring $10.00 cash. (First come, first serve).
All Color Guard members will also need a physical, and to be fitted for guard uniforms in the band room Monday from 3-6.

High school volleyball tryouts will be May 13 & 14 in the gym from 3:30-5:00. Signup sheets may be picked up from the office or Coach Sullivan’s room and must be turned in before Friday, May 9.
All Seniors check the bulletin board in building 1 to see if you have any outstanding fees.  Fees must be paid before you receive your cap and gown.  Pay fees to Mrs. Pam in the front office.
Boy’s basketball tryouts will be Wednesday, May 15th and Thursday, May 16th from 3-5:30pm.  Tryout forms can be picked up in the high school front office and need to be filled out and returned to Coach Arnold in the gym or Building 1 room 14 by Monday, May 13th.

Diamond Girls will meet after school today in Mrs. Genna's room.

Seniors Beta Members participating in the talent competition will meet after school on Tuesday in Mrs. Genna's room.

Senior Beta will have after-school cleanup on Tuesday. Meet in Ms. Chandler's room.
The BEST Club Scholarship is now available to seniors who are members of the BEST Club.  Please see Mrs. Perkins in the media center.
West Jones Swim Team tryouts will be next Monday at 6pm at the Natatorium. See Coach Lyon in Room 3 if you have any questions.

There will be an FBLA meeting in the morning at 7:20 for everyone going to competition, please be in attendance

BEST Club is selling raffle tickets for our upcoming Love You BEST Date Night Bundle drawings.  Buy a ticket - one for $5 or 5 for $20 and you will be entered to win - even if you win, your name goes back into the pot!  There are 5 drawings starting this Friday, February 8 and ending on Valentine's Day. Each Date Night includes a dozen roses, dinner, dessert, Rainforest car wash and more. 

If you believe that you will be eligible to receive a BEST Club pin at this year's annual banquet, in other words if you have maintained an 80 or above so far this year, the BEST Club needs your help!  Please come by the media center and pick up your raffle tickets to sell. The top 3 sellers will receive a prize.

The first annual West Jones Winter Book Swap has been extended till the end of this week!  Bring your books from home to the media center to swap.

Senior Beta will meet after school on Thursday in the Media Center.  Any in-season athlete will need to pick up an agenda by noon to receive credit for this month's meeting.
Pageant forms are available in both offices.  All forms are due to Mrs. Genna by February 22nd.  Also, Photogenic contest applications are also available in both offices.  These forms are due back by Wednesday, March 20, 2019.
All tennis team members need to go by the middle school office by the end of the day, today, to pick up your practice schedule.
Congratulations to the girls soccer team, they defeated West Harrison 3 to 1 on Saturday to advance to the South State finals in Long Beach on Wednesday.
** Mu Alpha Theta will meet in Mrs. Evan's room on Wednesday, Feb. 27 @ 7:00 A.M. sharp. We will discuss our next service project & honor cords for seniors. Attendance at this meeting is very important! **
The 9th grade vo tech tours will be this Friday, the 8th.

CONGRATULATIONS to West Jones Imagination for advancing to finals and placing 3rd among some very fierce competition at the Jackson Academy Show Choir Invitational.

Also, a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to West Jones very own KANEISHA FORTENBERRY for being selected OUTSTANDING PERFORMING among all those who advanced to finals.  Way to go KANEISHA ….. AKA TINA TUNER!!!!!

Middle School students, this is the last few weeks for Pennies for Patients. Every Friday in February we will check your collection jars and boxes. The class with the most money every Friday will receive
breakfast or treats the following Monday. All proceeds go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Let's help find a cure for blood cancer.
Jr. Beta will be selling Secret Valentines through February 8th. They will be delivered to 1st period classes on Valentine's Day. The cost is 50 cents and they can be purchased in the Middle School from any Math or English teacher or in the Middle School Office. In the High School, they can be purchased from Mrs. Deana Holifield, Mrs. Kathy Robinson, Mrs. Catrina Taylor, Mrs. Adkins, Mrs. Rose, Mrs. Evans, or Mrs. Brown.
Mississippi Scholar hours are due to Mrs. Mauldin. Sign off sheets are available in the counselor’s office.   
If you are receiving a scholarship, Mrs. Mauldin must receive a copy of the scholarship in order for it to be recognized at class night. Deadline for submission is May 1st.  
Several College recruiters will be on campus in the Media Center. Please pay attention to dates and times. If you need to see the recruiter, please sign up in the counselor’s office.

WJH NEEDS YOUR HELP

Announcements 11/26/18


Congratulations to our Mustang football team for winning the South State Championship!  The Mustangs will travel to The Rock at USM Saturday, Dec. 1st to take on West Point for the battle for State Champs!  The game starts at 7:00 so come out and support your Mustangs!!

All Mustang football players and cheerleaders will be special guests at FCA in the morning at 715!! Everyone is welcome to come!! See you in the gym!!! 
The winners of the Turkey Teacher contest are Mrs. White in the middle school and Ms. Strebeck in the high school. Thank you to all who participated!
High school Science Club members who turned in permission forms and are going on Tuesday's field trip to the Forensics Lab at USM will meet immediately after school on Tuesday in SL1.  Departure time is 3:00 pm. 
Juniors and Seniors who are interested in a "Free Speech" essay contest with cash prizes, see Mrs. Perkins in the media center.

There is the BEST club meeting tonight at 5:30 in the media center. 
All Key Club members need to go to Mrs. Bryant's room to get their Pancake Day T-shirts.
You have two weeks to sell your Pancake Day tickets.  Money is due, Friday, November 30th. Turn money into Mrs. Grafton or Mrs. Bryant.
Spanish Club is taking donations for SCAR. They can bring towels, food, treats, toys, etc. to my room any time before December 14th.

Make sure to order a yearbook by December 11th, either at school or online.  We have extra forms in the office.

School start will be delayed one hour...

We will delay the start of school tomorrow morning by one hour due to severe weather coming into our area. The first bell will sound at 8:40 AM to go to 2nd period with tardy bell at 8:50 AM. We will proceed normally for the remainder of the day. We will not split periods.

School day picture retakes will be in gym lobby Tuesday, Nov. 6.   
This Friday’s spirit theme is Color Wars.  Each grade will wear a different color.  7th grade will wear Gray, 8th grade will wear Black, 9th grade will wear Pink, the 10th grade will wear Blue, the 11th grade will wear Green, and 12thgrade will wear White.
Jr High Basketball HOME Game Today, October 29th vs NE Jones. Girls game at 4pm and Boys game at 5pm. Come out and support your Mustangs!
Don't forget West Jones Jr. High & High School Girls and Boys Basketball Teams Meet The Mustang tomorrow at 6pm!
Ellis Fest on Saturday, November 3rd should see Mrs. Brown in the Career Center to sign up.

The Senior Beta Club will have its monthly meeting on Thursday, November 1st after school in the media center. Any in-season athlete who cannot attend the meeting should see his/her grade-level sponsor by noon Thursday to get an agenda.

The WJ Senior Class is sponsoring a Black Friday Drawdown. Tickets are $50 each.  See a senior class member to purchase a ticket.  The drawing will be held November 15th.  
Spanish Club meeting is Wednesday, November 7th. Please wear your Spanish Club shirt and be at the meeting on time so that we can take a club picture for the yearbook.

High School Boys Basketball Game Saturday, Nov. 3rd at Jones County Community College Classic at 1pm. Please come out and support your Mustangs!
The ASVAB test will be administered on November 1st. The ASVAB is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military. Any junior or senior interested in the military should sign up in the counselor’s office ASAP.  
Graduate Services will be on campus Tuesday, October 30 at 8:00. This is a very important meeting for all seniors. Please make arrangements to be here.

FFA has started its Thanksgiving and Christmas fruit and meat sale.  To place an order talk to any participating Ag student or contact the Ag department directly.
