West Jones High School Peer Council is kicking off Red Ribbon Week by hanging banners around campus to encourage students to stay drug-free!! Peer Council is taught by Denise Graves with assistance from JCSD Nurse Courtney Johnson.

West Jones High School Peer Council members recently taught Tar Wars to 4th and 5th graders at West Jones Elementary and North Jones Elementary. Council members used presentation boards to share important information about cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, and vapes. Stories, activities, and games were used to teach the terrible consequences of smoking, vaping, and using smokeless tobacco. Peer Council members encourage everyone to be smoke and vape free!! Peer Council is taught by Denise Graves and assisted by Francie Pope, Jones County School District nurse.

West Jones High School Peer Council recently participated in the activities in the "Be Your Best Self" mobile classroom, which is sponsored by South Central Regional Medical Center, the South Central Health Care Foundation, and the Parents for Drug-Free Youth. The mobile classroom has innovative software which brings awareness to the impact of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco have on the youth in our communities. Thanks to Mrs. Sylvia Ellis, Parents of Drug-Free Youth, for scheduling this event for Peer Council. West Jones Peer Council is taught by Denise Graves with assistance from Francie Pope, Jones County School District Nurse.

West Jones Peer Council recently participated in the National Kick Butts Day event by creating a graveyard symbolizing the approximate 480,000 deaths in the United States each year due to tobacco-related illnesses. On this day, smokers are encouraged to "kick" the smoking habit, and non-smokers are encouraged to NEVER start!

Members of the WJHS Peer Council created posters depicting the "Drug Free" message! Posters were hung at West Jones Elementary School and North Jones Elementary School. A Red Ribbon Week banner was hung at the entrance to the West Jones High School campus to encourage everyone to be Drug Free! Peer Council is taught by Denise Graves with help from Angie Bynum, Jones County School District Nurse.

WJHS Peer Council recently had a visit from K9 Zedd and Deputy Doug Sheppard…

WJHS Peer Council recently had a visit from K9 Zedd and Deputy Doug Sheppard with the Jones County Sheriff’s Department. Deputy Sheppard answered questions regarding Zedd’s duties as a narcotic K9, the ongoing training needed, and the many drug arrests that have been made due to Zedd’s help. Deputy Sheppard also shared valuable information to the students as they are gearing up for a new year in planning “Drug-Free” activities for students at WJHS, North Jones Elementary, and West Jones Elementary. Peer Council is taught by Denise Graves with assistance from Jones County School District Nurse, Angie Bynum.
