West Jones High School Peer Council prepares for Red Ribbon Week!

Members of the WJHS Peer Council created posters depicting the "Drug Free" message! Posters were hung at West Jones Elementary School and North Jones Elementary School. A Red Ribbon Week banner was hung at the entrance to the West Jones High School campus to encourage everyone to be Drug Free! Peer Council is taught by Denise Graves with help from Angie Bynum, Jones County School District Nurse.

Meanwhile at the September Science Club meeting…

At the West Jones Science Club September meeting, Mr. Eric Johnson spoke to the high school members about his work at the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the science used to solve crimes. Mr. Johnson is currently an investigator with Mississippi’s Agricultural and Livestock Theft Bureau.

WJHS Quiz Bowl Team visits the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art…

The WJHS Quiz Bowl Team recently visited the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art and toured the “Leonardo da Vinci: Machines” exhibit. The team learned about the Renaissance Man’s military machines, robots, inventions for exercising and flying, and other amazing devices, along with his art and life.

Proudly Serving MS FFA

Jones County is home to three of the six 2018-2019 Mississippi FFA state officers and two of the six 2018-2019 Mississippi FFA Junior State Officers.  After successfully navigating a rigorous interview process during the 2018 MS FFA State Convention, Brody Hamm of West Jones, Colleen Ellzey of South Jones, J.C. Doggett of Northeast Jones, Avery Hamm of West Jones, and Brianna Fenton of Northeast Jones have begun their year of service!

During their year of service, these young men and women will be traveling the state of MS visiting FFA chapters, conducting leadership workshops, touring agricultural industries and farms, meeting with local and state government officials, as well as networking with national FFA officers and members.

Avery, the daughter of Jason and Ashley Hamm and a Freshman at West Jones, is the 2018-2019 MS FFA Junior State Vice-President.

The son of Jason and Ashley Hamm and a senior at West Jones, Brody is the 2018-2019 MS FFA State Secretary.

The daughter of Todd and Carrie Fenton, Brianna is the 2018-2019 MS FFA Junior State Secretary and is a Freshman at Northeast Jones.

Colleen, a senior at South Jones, is the daughter of Jason and Lindsey Ellzey and is the 2018-2019 MS FFA State Vice-President.

J. C., the son of Brent and Debbie Wade and the late Kale Doggett, is the 2018-2019 MS FFA State Reporter and a senior at Northeast Jones.

First Science Club meeting 2018…

The West Jones Science Club held its first meeting of the year in August. Science National Honor Society members Joshua Cooper, Kaitlyn Pruitt, and Joanna Ni presented a forensics program in which students performed a chromatography investigation.

WJHS Peer Council recently had a visit from K9 Zedd and Deputy Doug Sheppard…

WJHS Peer Council recently had a visit from K9 Zedd and Deputy Doug Sheppard with the Jones County Sheriff’s Department. Deputy Sheppard answered questions regarding Zedd’s duties as a narcotic K9, the ongoing training needed, and the many drug arrests that have been made due to Zedd’s help. Deputy Sheppard also shared valuable information to the students as they are gearing up for a new year in planning “Drug-Free” activities for students at WJHS, North Jones Elementary, and West Jones Elementary. Peer Council is taught by Denise Graves with assistance from Jones County School District Nurse, Angie Bynum.
