The West Jones High School Science Club visited the
Pascagoula River Audubon Center in Moss Point to learn about coastal ecology.
The students took a swamp tour, collected and examined plankton, and spent time
kayaking in the bayou, among other activities.
The Science Club consists of students in grades 9-12 who are interested
in experiencing science outside the traditional classroom.

West Jones High School Science Club members tour the Forensic Science labs at USM...
High School Science Club members took a trip to USM in lieu of the regular November meeting. Casey Lowe (center), a graduate of West Jones High School currently working on her master's degree in Forensic Science, gave a tour of the Forensic Science labs. The students learned about the forensic emphasis areas and examined several pieces of laboratory equipment used to solve crimes. The club enjoyed socializing over dinner at The District in Midtown. The WJ Science Club is an academic club devoted to stimulating interest in the sciences and science-related careers.

West Jones Science Club visits Mississippi Museum of Natural Science
The West Jones Science Club took its annual field trip in November and visited the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science. A program about mammals was presented by a museum educator, and students enjoyed touring the museum and walking the trails. The Science Club is an academic club for 7th-12th-grade students that meets once per month after school for an activity or lesson to enhance classroom instruction.

At the West Jones Science Club September meeting, Mr. Eric Johnson spoke to the high school members about his work at the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the science used to solve crimes. Mr. Johnson is currently an investigator with Mississippi’s Agricultural and Livestock Theft Bureau.

First Science Club meeting 2018…
The West Jones Science Club held its first meeting of the year in August. Science National Honor Society members Joshua Cooper, Kaitlyn Pruitt, and Joanna Ni presented a forensics program in which students performed a chromatography investigation.
